Assignment from last week with word problems is due NO LATER than homeroom in AM

WM

Today we will go over any concerns, do a couple 3×3 word problems and have a quiz either Tues/or Wed as decided.

We will next begin the long chapters on QUADRATIC EQUATIONS

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22-25th

Posted in Uncategorized on September 19, 2008 by wdmacewen

We are working on word problems for the week.

The exercises are on the assignment page of my blog.

All of these should be completed by the end of the week.

There will be extra help on TUESDAY after school for those wanting help on linear equations.

MONDAY and TUESDAY SEPT 15/16

Today Monday we will again do 1 problem involving solving a system by graphing, substitution and elimination. Assignment #2 is due  tomorrow.

Monday we will start solving systems of 3 eqs with 3 unknowns and continue to do these in class on Tuesday. Most likely we will test on Thursday.

for Friday Sept 12th

thursday we finished up exercises on “Substitution”.

Moved on to the process of “Elimination”. Worked on some problems on PAGE 38-9, #7,9,13,15, and 17-25odds.

Did a couple examples of page 39 where had to simplify fractional equations first and then use elimination to solve.

Assigned homework for Friday and ASSIGNMENT #2 which is due on TUESDAY next week. #27-36 for Friday and for Tuesday p.52

#1-4  ,   #7-16,  # 18-19 and #22-25.

for THURSDAY SEPT 11th

In class wed we went over Assignment #1 and moved on to solving systems of linear eqs by “SUBSTITUTION”.

Did examples and assigned for Thursday on page 26, #9-23 odds and #29b,c

for WEDNESDAY SEPT 10th

On Tuesday we collected assignment #1.

Talked about graphing systems of linear equations and finding out without a graph how many solutions a system would have if any.

If m’s are the same, lines must intersect and therefore 1 solution only.

If m’s are the same, but their y-intercepts are different then the lines are parallel and would never meet, therefore no possible solutions.

If m’s and y-intercepts are both the same, then the lines are identical and any point on one is also on the other, therefore infinite number of solutions.

Assigned #25-30 on p11 for Wednesday. Will return assignment #1 today Wednesday.

TUESDAY SEPT 9th

On Monday we reviewed getting points for and plotting ordered pairs.

Assignment #1 was handed out and due tomorrow.

Tomorrow we work on graphing systems to find points of intersection.

for MONDAY SEPT 8

On Friday we discussed what satisfying a linear equation implied and worked through a picture of a linear equation and related info:

points, ordered pairs, independent and dependent variables, slope, what slope means, types of slope for different lines, x and y intercepts and left exercises on page 5, #1 and #2 parts b and d only.
