The problems in booklet on radicals should be finished for <onday. With the storm day this should be now completed by Monday. On MOnday the handout sheet will be considered as ASSIGNMENT #1. We have done p261-2 on handout and the other page should be passed in for WEDNESDAY. On Monday we will go over any problems experienced with the booklet pages especially the geometry problems. We will also then procede through the booklet and start problems on exponents. After the exponent second and a correspponding assignment we will have our first quiz. TUESDAY our class and Mr Wynne’s class will have a presentation by Grant Canvin from Holland College.

Hope Feb 14th was “heart-warming”.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT HOLIDAY!

We have done basic sine law and cosine law problems before the break.

Monday we will do a few more problems where you need to decide which law to use:

Hint: In SSS or SAS information given problems, use cosine law. For other use sine law. Remember, only use Pythagorean Theorem when given right triangles. We will introduce Monday the sine law ambiguous case. Then as well, between Monday and Tuesday problems where diagrams need to be created using angles of elevation and angles of depression and throw in the ambiguous case where it applies. After workday on Wednesday, we will wrap this up and probably quiz on Friday. Next Monday we will start matrix work.

This is it for week #1 in 2009!

For Monday a journal piece is required and the topic is “Nature of the Roots” for a quadratic equation. Notes and text may be used to give examples, formulas, graphs and definitions of what goes on with the roots and why and when.

On Monday the class will be used to work on an assignment to be finished and passed in before classtime in AM on TUESDAY> We have a test on all the quadratics we have done since midterm exams on Wed

Includes, radicals, complex and imaginary numbers, solving quad eqs with factors, square root principle, quad formula, nature of the roots and Sum and Product of the roots.
